Deep Time is a dynamically scalable timeline of the complete history of the earth, from the creation of earth to now, including most known pre-historic events and a lot of human history events. The timeline is zoomable and adapts its event listings accordingly. At the maximum zoom level of 1 pixel representing one day, the whole timeline is over a whopping 438,000 km long. That’s a strip of paper wrapped 11 times around earth.
The dynamic scaling of the timeline allows for getting a good sense of the vast stretches of time involved in earth’s evolution, which would be rather difficult to convey with a static image or a static web page. The idea for this website was in the back of my head for at least 15 years but as I’m not primarily a web developer it was never really something to realistically approach, until recently.

But wait! There’s more
I decided to make the timeline engine more modular so that it works with not just earth history but other timelines, too, for example fictional ones from games and movies and since I’m a huge Elder Scrolls fan and The Elder Scrolls has such a rich lore why not create a timeline for it, right? So here it is: The Deep Time TES Timeline!
